Best Jeans to Hide a Muffin Top

Jeans can be a girl's best friend; a multitude of styles to choose from; a variety of colours and textures; and, of course, their prevalence in the fashion industry make them the item of clothing a lot of us turn to most often.

However, when suffering with weight issues, jeans can also turn into your worst enemy.

Choose the wrong material, style or fit and you could have a fashion disaster on your hands!

So which are the best jeans for hiding your muffin top?

Before we consider the ideas of style or material, let us first take a look at the fit.

The most important thing when picking a pair of jeans is to make sure they fit your body correctly.

It's so frustrating when you find that pair of jeans that makes your butt look amazing, but the legs are baggy, or the legs fit like a dream, but the waist is too tight!

Unless you're willing to spend extra money at a tailor or happen to be good at sewing yourself, you should never settle for ill-fitting jeans.

If you really can't bear the thought of coming home empty handed try just focusing on the fit around the waist as this is where your muffin top will spring up if the jeans are too tight.

Remember though, it is possible to find the perfect pair with a little time and patience.

Next, the question of material.

It's a good idea to choose jeans made with stretchy material so that there's a little give if one area is a little snug while the rest fits perfectly.

I would also recommend wearing darker colours so as not to attract attention to your lower half. This also allows you to team the jeans with a wider variety of tops.

Finally, the style is important.

Choose something you're comfortable with and not something that is in fashion just for the sake of it - I have discovered that anything with a flare at the bottom is not my friend.

Avoid low rise jeans at all costs! These are the worst culprits when it comes to muffin top as they're so unforgiving and can dig in where you really don't want them to.

Try to go for a higher waistband instead - you can always wear a longer top to cover up where it rests on you.

Overall, the jeans to look out for when trying to hide your muffin top are:

• A perfect fit around the waist (and preferably the rest of the lower body as well)
• Made of stretch denim
• Dark in colour
• A style that suits your body type and makes you feel comfortable
• Not low rise!
• Relatively high-waisted

Keep these six criteria in mind the next time you go shopping and you can't go wrong!
